Step 1:
The Company Information Form (FORM-2) should first be completed with the student’s details by the student, then sent to the company for filling in the company details.
Step 2:
Once completed and stamped/sealed by the company, the Company Information Form (FORM-2) is submitted to the department for approval by the internship committee members.
Step 3:
The Company Information Form (FORM-2) and the Eligibility Document (to be obtained from the SGK link using the e-Government password) must be submitted to the department secretary.
Step 4:
Students must fill out the Internship Evaluation Form (FORM - 3), including attaching a photo (this can be a passport-style photo added digitally and printed in color, or a physical photo can be attached). The form is then submitted to the department secretary for stamping.
Step 5:
The stamped Internship Evaluation Form (FORM - 3) is retrieved from the department secretary and delivered to the company. After the internship, the responsible engineer at the company must complete the form, including their comments and grades, and return it in a sealed and signed envelope to the department chair (either via mail or hand-delivered with the internship report).
Step 6:
The photo-attached page on the second page of the internship file must be completed, submitted to the department secretary, and retrieved as a stamped document.
Step 7:
At the end of the internship, the completed internship report should be printed, including the second page mentioned in step 6. It should be assembled into a bound report.
Step 8:
The assembled internship file must be submitted to the department within 15 days from the start of the academic term. Internship files submitted beyond this period will not be accepted.
Note:
Internships will be evaluated by the department faculty members assigned by the department chair. The grades and any missing days determined by the faculty members based on the internship evaluation criteria will be finalized and announced by the internship committee.
Students who intern on Saturdays must document that the workplace operates on Saturdays with the approval of an authorized person. This document must be included after the second page of the internship file.
Internships involve the practical application of theoretical education in the workplace. Therefore, the internship period should not be spent on activities such as training, courses, or studying. Only orientation courses to familiarize with the company are acceptable. Students are expected to participate in or at least observe technical activities during their internship.
Every student starting an internship must have an Internship Notebook. Students should note their daily activities based on the program they have prepared and use these notes when preparing their internship file in the appropriate format. The internship file must be submitted to the department secretary in accordance with the rules and within the specified timeframe defined by the department’s internship committee. Non-compliance will result in the internship being considered invalid.
If the engineering scope at the internship site is minimal, and there is nothing related to engineering to do, this issue should be reported to the workplace supervisor for resolution. If the problems persist, the student must find a new internship location. If a student cannot find a new place during the internship period, simply stating that the internship location was unsuitable will not validate the internship. Responsibility for securing a good internship place and the outcomes of a failed internship lie with the student.
If deemed necessary, the supervising faculty member may request additional documents (e.g., the Internship Notebook or any other document used in writing the internship file) from the student.
Preparing a well-structured, comprehensive, and clear Technical Report is crucial for engineers. The internship file serves as an initial experience in this area. Therefore, internship files will also be evaluated on criteria such as content, language, presentation, and diligence in report preparation.
The internship report must reflect the actual work done. Contributions to the work by others should also be mentioned. Reports exaggerating or presenting work that was not actually done will not be evaluated. Understanding the significance of the work, placing it within the broader context, and conveying it in a report format with observations and conclusions without exaggeration are sufficient for a successful internship.
Official holidays and Sundays cannot be considered workdays. If such days are recorded as workdays in the internship report, they will not be evaluated and will be marked as missing days requiring repetition.
Internship evaluation will follow the criteria outlined above. Students scoring 70 or above (refer to Table 1) will be deemed successful. Those with lower scores must complete the number of additional internship days specified in Table 1.
For students completing a 40-day internship at the end of the 3rd year:
Final Internship Score | Days to Repeat |
---|---|
0 – 20 | 20 Workdays |
21 – 30 | 15 Workdays |
31 – 40 | 10 Workdays |
41 – 50 | 5 Workdays |
51 – 60 | 3 Workdays |
61 – 70 | 1 Workday |
70 and Above | 0 Workdays – Pass |
